Maximum USB cable length for an usb powered device?

Hi, I have a Blue Snowflake USB microphone, which, of course, is USB-powered. Presently it is connected to my PC with its own USB cable that is only 1 metre long. Trouble is that I need approx 3.5 metres distance from the PC. So, if I buy a simple 3 metre USB A to A extension cable and plug the microphone's cable into that - altogether 4 metres - will it work? If yes, will it be 100% okay or is it possible that some of the signal will be lost? I need the best quality possible. I read many articles the USB maximum cable length being 5 metre, while some others state it is only 3 metre for "slow usb devices", usb powered devices and copper(?) USB extension cables, so I am a bit confused. If it would not work or singal loss is possible, then would it help if I had a "USB active extension repeater cable" or a USB hub that is mains powered? Which is better? I saw those active repeater cables are not mains powered while the better USB hubs are, so I guess maybe these hubs are better for the purpose? Thanks
