How to setup a wifi repeater?

I have a Trendnet TEW-652BRP router on my dell computer up front. In my back room i have my desktop computer with a usb wifi adapter. It doesn't pick up the strength well so i looked it up and decided to get a repeater. Before i go out and buy it i want to know does it have to be a router by the same company and how do i set it up? To add will it take the signal because in my room it is low and make it strong?
