Can I turn my old Linksys Router into a wireless repeater?

I have an old Linksys router and I have been told that I can turn it into a repeater so that I can amplify my wifi signal. Is this possible? If so, what is the best way to do it? Also, may main router is a Gateway router (AT&T Uverse). Hope this helps, thanks!
